Portarlington Town Forum was set up in February 2007 as a voice for the people of the town to consult with the councillors from both Laois and Offaly.
Monthly meetings are held with the respective councillors and local community volunteers in Cul le Cheile Offices Main Street Portarlington.
A public meeting was held in October 2007 and various questions were put to our local representatives. The questions raised were:
Question 1
I would like to ask you as elected representatives this question about completion of a large number of estates. Crann Nua and Sli Na Mona for example have no proper footpaths or lighting despite this being a condition of the planning permission.
(A) Who is the enforcer in the council to ensure work is completed?
(B) What are the repurcussions to the developer for non completion?
Question 2
Can the county councillors list the remit for the council for the general upkeep of Portarlington?
Does this remit include communal areas, grass verges etc?
Question 3
Is there a problem with the sewerage system for the town?
I would request a response from both councils on this issue.
Question 4
Living in a large estate I have experienced on going water pressure issues. With periods during the day with perssure too low to run showers. Can I ask the councillors what information they have on this issue?
Also is there any confirmation to a solution.
Question 5
Speaking from the premise that county councillors are elected by the people, I would like to ask the panel if they could explain their modus operandi when granting planning permission for development, expecially in light of the lack of infracture.
Question 6
Having grave concerns due to substantial amount of building that has ben allowed to take place on the flood plains. I on behalf of the community of Portarlington call on the councillors
(A) To identify on the map here this evening the area they propose to rezone,
(B) Identify on whos behalf.

Question on water pollution in Portarlington.
The AGM is been held on the 2nd April 2008 in the community centre at 8pm. Answers to the questions36
