Geographically Portarlington embraces two counties, the south side of the town lies in county Laois and the north side is in county Offaly. The development association in Portarlington was established through a number of public meetings held towards the end of 1997. The aim of the group is to be the voice of the entire community, to develop the entrepreneurial, social and cultural content of the town and to plan for future development.
